L/Cpl John Armitage uses his water divining skills
The pix left shows an 'Aussie' water diviner searching for and ultimately finding a water source for Operation Crown. His name is L/Cpl John Armitage of 2 Trp 11 Ind Field Sqn, his talent and skill meant his personal contribution to the project was immense as water no longer had to be transported into Crown. The picture right is a custom designed badge for No 79 (F) Squadron at Ubon formed late in May 1962 with a squadron strength of 8 Sabre aircraft and about 80 personnel, arriving in Ubon on 29th May 1962. Click on the picture to read more.

The image left shows a custom made badge for the Base Squadron. The Base Squadron consisted of the Ground crews and non flying staff of 79 Sqn. Advance elements of the squadron arrived in Ubon on 31st May 1962, subsequently the strength reached about 100 personnel.
