HELP

HELP (I need somebody) as the Beatles famously sang. For this site to develop, the people who lived and worked on Op Crown, have a part to play in telling their stories and experiences of their time at Leong Nok Tha.

The main runway culverts Harry and Brian

The image above shows sappers from 59 Sqn working on the main culverts under the runway. The two guys in the picture were both corporals. The shot top left shows members of 34 Sqn, it was taken on the 'Post Crown' road. The guy behind the wheel is Harry Ward, his passenger is Bryan Walmsley. The cook is 'Lennie', he was in 59 from the beginning at Ross Barracks Shornecliffe. He was something of a character. To say the food was basic is being generous. I remember a bunch of us arriving back late in the evening after completing an exercise somewhere in Kent, the cooks were rousted to provide a meal. The only ingredients available were bread/ white/ sliced, eggs and margarine. The cooks used all their expertise to rustle up a sumptious main meal of 'Fried Egg Sandwiches'. Jamie Oliver, eat your heart out.

Lennie Buddy Holly eat your heart out

The Buddy Holly impersonator (above) with the Thai bandsman is on the quayside at Bankok harbour as the last Op Crown personnel left Thailand for final time, his name is 'Jock' Reid. Pix courtesy of Jim Parker. The pix right is from 'Buck' Brown. They are members of 3Trp 59 Sqn and Jim Curtis is standing in the middle.

We want this site to develop and grow. The only way for this to happen is if you Op Crown veterans contact us with your stories and pictures. Click on the the contacts page and let's use this site to bring as many of us together again as we can.
