Op Crown Salisbury Reunion 2009

22 Engineers Visit

'The Lord Mayor's Show' ended all too soon so it was back to the hotel for a change and freshen up. The next item on the agenda for our partners was a visit to the Cathedral and by all accounts a very enjoyable one it was too! ( I need some pictures of the event Ladies) So much so that the guide who accompanied them was rewarded, How? Read on. I had a lovely "Thank You" card waiting for me on Saturday from "The Wives of the Operation Crown Veterans". I don't have any way of letting them know how much I appreciated getting this from them and wondered if you could contact them on my behalf and thank them for their sentiment. It was a wonderful way to "finish" my guiding at Salisbury (well at least for 18 months !) since Saturday was my last guiding day. All the best to you, Steve
OK Steve, thats a job done then!! Webmaster
In the meantime it was a bus journey for the 'Vets' which took them to 22 Engineer Regiment. We were met at the Barracks by RQMS Wright whom it must be said had given up his own time to attend to our visit. A pleasant surprise to the reunion organisers was the provision of lunch in the Sgt's Mess! RQMS Wright requested we sign for it to 'balance the books' so to speak. Hence the shot of the 'Roll Call'. Derek and Gill Yates had to leave after lunch which bought thier participation of our reunion to an end. The 'Vets' were then taken on a guided tour of 22 Regt. by RQMS Wright who soon identified the potential 'mischief maker' of the party. Step forward 25215965 Spr. Tom Livesey, the man who was given the job of 'Minder' and chauffeur to Cliffy. This ensured Cliffy was on his best behavior for the entire visit. If you're reading this Tom, Cliffy wants to extend his thanks for your help! After the tour it was back to the Sgt's Mess for a few drinks and a chat with RQMS Wright. While we engaged in this occupation Cliff Watts (What it is about the name Cliffe?) spotted a statue of Hercules in a place he didn't think was suitable for him. After enlisting my help we positioned Hercules to get the best viewpoint for the opening picture of this slideshow. Again time flew and the visit was over. The final shot of the slideshow records Buck presenting RQMS Wright with his own Operation Crown tie as a keepsake for his contribution to our reunion. I think the slideshow pictures show RQMS Wright to be a 'larger than life' character with the ability to raise a laugh. He certainly has the presence not to be overshadowed by very own Sgt. Major 'Yakker' Yates! Click on the Auto/Start button to run the slideshow of pictures for the visit to 22 Engineer Regiment. All pictures of the reunion are copyright to this site.
