Salisbury Reunion 2010

Our reunion in Salisbury 2010 came and went in a flash, judging from the feedback it seems everyone enjoyed themselves, none more so than the three couples pictured below. The attendance of John and Linda Brown (below left), Stewart and 'wor lass' Joan Hulley (below right) and Tony and Linda Bold (below center), was the first reunion for all three couples and hopefully we'll be seeing them again for many more. John served on Crown with the REME on recovery with his Scammell 'Michelle', his story and pictures will be posted on the REME page asp. Another first for John was to meet up with his old mate John Lloyd for the first time in forty four years, they had plenty to talk about over the weekend. Stewart was one of the lucky sappers to have a double stint, first with 59 Fd Sqn on Operation Crown. He was there again on the airfield and then the Post Crown road with 34 Fd Sqn. Tony served with 34 finishing of the concrete apron and then working on the first 14 kilometers of road until 34 went back to the U. K.

Salisbury Reunion 2010

The reunion took place over the weekend of the 10th, 11th and 12th September and was attended by 32 in all including wives. As was requested at last year’s reunion the weekend began with a Reunion Dinner at the Salisbury British Legion Club this was so that those who had travelled some distance could relax rather than have to travel to a restaurant outside Salisbury. The evening was a success with our special guest Col. Eagle an ex Sapper as well as John Valkman travelling up from Marchwood to meet up with Roy Falconer as they hadn’t seen each other for several years. The evening was then rounded off with a sing-song the music being provided by Sophie Eden, a young local musician. On the Saturday morning we all then met up again outside the Red Lion Hotel at 10.00am for the short coach ride to the AAC museum at Middle Wallop for a few relaxing hours looking around the various exhibits. Then in the evening we all met up again at 6.30pm outside the Red Lion for the trip to the “Emblems restaurant” for a very enjoyable buffet whilst looking at the Badges carved into the hill by soldiers in the WW1, as well learning something of the history of the restaurant from the owner. During the evening it was also decided that John and I would go ahead and plan the 2011 reunion but this time in the Midlands so as to minimise travelling distances. It has now been decided to make The City of Lichfield our priority location. Lichfield is only four miles or so from The National Arboretum. The weekend was rounded off with a few meeting up for farewell drinks at the British Legion. So many thanks to you all for making the weekend a success and for those not going on the trip to Thailand, I look forward to meeting you at the next reunion in 2011, if not before. For those going to Thailand, see you all on the 1st November. I have have the itinerary for the Remembrance Day parade in Ubon of which you will receive details nearer the time.
Regards
Buck and Rosemary
